In the United States, as well as many European countries,
a non profit laptop is an important and well-used technology
product. It used to stand that the users of a laptop in the
nonprofit were the presidents, vice presidents, executive
directors, associate directors, and other high-level employees.
This was because laptops for nonprofits were seen as more
of a luxury item and not used that often but when these staff
members were at meetings and other business related functions
where it was good to have a laptop but not completely necessary.
This has changed a lot in recent years as service oriented
non profits found that they could increase their performance
and reduce overall expenses by outfitting program level employees
with a non profit laptop. These organizations saw efficiency
rise and although costs rose, overall labor costs dropped
and donations raised and program performance raised. This
turned out to be a hidden surprise although for years, businesses
have known that outfitting lower-level employees accomplished
the same thing when they had laptops.
It is for this reason, although there are many more that an
organization should consider how they are outfitting staff
members with technology. Do they need to invest in another
non profit laptop? That would depend on who would be using
this hardware and what they would be accomplishing. But if
it increases program and service work then the decision should
be made and the investment authorized. |
